Universal Precautions Course

1.0 Contact Hour

The Universal Precautions course is based on guidelines produced by The Laboratory Centre for Disease Control, Health Canada and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control. This intends to cover the purpose, the practice and the law as it relates to preventing the spread of disease. It is better to perform this course prior to Blood borne Pathogens for increased comfort and knowledge of Universal Precautions.

TARGET audience
This module is designed for all hospital personnel who are looking to become more knowledgeable and confident in their comprehension and approach to universal precautions. This course can be used for new hospital personnel or in meeting repeated mandatory training.

Objectives

* Define what is meant by universal precautions
* List and differentiate the three categories of 'barriers to prevention'
* Explain the purpose of practicing universal precautions in your daily practice
* Integrate your knowledge of universal precautions with a realistic case scenario
