Building Patient Rapport discusses methods and communication skills utilized in eliciting information from a patient during the physical assessment interview and includes tips to build patient rapport. This module describes the importance of building rapport with the patient and family members, verbal and non-verbal cues to watch for during the physical assessment interview, and describes how patient anxiety can skew the assessment results. This course has the goal of facilitating knowledge and confidence in the physical assessment and daily care of the patient.
Objectives
• Explain the fundamental components of the physical assessment interview
• Discuss methods and communication skills utilized in eliciting information from a patient during the physical assessment interview
• Discuss verbal and non-verbal cues to watch for during the physical assessment interview
• Describe how patient anxiety can skew the assessment results
